Imperativ: Sie and ihr
Give orders, advice, requests and instructions. Start with the formal Sie and the plural ihr.
What is the Imperativ?
- The Imperativ is a sentence form used for: 1) orders, 2) advice, 3) requests, 4) instructions.
- It can only be given to a person you are talking to directly, so you only use it with the 2nd person: du, ihr and Sie.
- The verb comes first, in the Imperativ form.
Sie form and ihr form

Sie: verb + Sie (same as the conjugated form). ihr: the same as the conjugated form with ihr, without the pronoun.
Formal: with Sie
- Gehen Sie zum Arzt!
- Essen Sie viel Obst!
- Nehmen Sie Ihre Medikamente jeden Tag!
Formal: separable verbs (the prefix goes to the end)
- Rufen Sie mich an!
- Machen Sie bitte die Tür zu!
Plural: with ihr
- Geht zum Arzt!
- Esst viel Obst!
- Nehmt eure Medikamente jeden Tag!
- Ruft mich an!
- Macht bitte die Tür zu!
