Questions you answer with yes or no. Put the verb first.

What are Ja/Nein-Fragen?

  • You have to answer a Ja/Nein Frage with yes or no.
  • It is a more direct way of asking.
  • Ask it when you want confirmation for something you assume or already know.

How to make a Ja/Nein-Frage

  • Position 1: the conjugated verb. Position 2: the subject. Then the rest of the sentence.
  • Use the right pronoun with the verb: Lernen Sie Deutsch?
  • Statement (Aussagesatz): the verb is in 2nd position: Thomas wohnt in Berlin.
  • Question: the verb moves to 1st position: Wohnt Thomas in Berlin?
