Regelmäßige Verben

Regular verbs

Most verbs follow one pattern: take the stem and add an ending. Then learn the few exceptions.

What are regular verbs?

  • Regular verbs are also called weak verbs (schwache Verben).
  • The verb stem stays the same when the verb is conjugated.
  • To find the stem: take the infinitive and remove -en or -n.
  • machen → mach, hören → hör, klingeln → klingel.

The endings

PronounEndingExample: wohnen
ich-ewohne
du-stwohnst
er / es / sie-twohnt
wir-enwohnen
ihr-twohnt
sie / Sie-enwohnen

wir and sie/Sie always look the same as the infinitive.
